POSITION SUMMARY
  • The English Learner Instructional Assistant (ELIA) will perform responsible human support and paraprofessional work under the direction of EL teachers to achieve instructional objectives and compliance tasks based on Title III EL program requirements; while assisting EL students with achieving established goals appropriate for students designated as potential EL, EL, or Formerly EL. Performs responsible human support and paraprofessional work while assisting classroom teachers or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives; and while assisting students with achieving established goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
  • Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning objectives introduced by teacher.
  • Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher.
  • Assists with large and small group activities.
  • Guides independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
  • Reports student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
  • Assists with loading and unloading buses.
  • Supervises students during unstructured time such as lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Assists with student routines.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Help maintain order in the classroom; monitor students to keep them on task.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility, or an Associate’s Degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro assessment.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
