GENERAL INFORMATION
Title: All In Literacy Curriculum Specialist  Department: Curriculum and Instruction Salary Grade: $62,500 Grant Funded through June 2025
FLSA Status: Exempt
Site/Location:  C & I  Reports to: Curriculum and Instruction Supervisor  Date: 11/21/2023
POSITION SUMMARY

This position will be supervised by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and will be responsible for aligning our current curriculum pacing model to our developing Literacy Plan. This role will have a special focus on designing intentional cross-curricular opportunities and structures to ensure literacy is a priority across all K-12 subjects. The literacy specialist will create lesson plans, write a literacy curriculum, monitor the progress of implementation, and provide ongoing professional learning opportunities in one-on-one and group settings. The specialist will assist with classroom observations to ensure the written literacy curriculum is being delivered.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate instructional strategies for literacy with a focus on the Science of Reading.

  • Supports evaluation and selection of materials and interventions.
  • Use data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and students.
  • Write literacy curriculum and align quarterly pacing.
  • Monitor implementation and progress of literacy initiatives, including Science of Reading. 
  • Conduct classroom observations to collect data regarding the implementation of division literacy instruction.
  • Works to achieve division literacy objectives.
  • Assists teachers in pacing instruction to provide opportunities for student success.
  • Plans for and makes effective use of time, materials, and resources.
  • Designs intentional cross-curricular opportunities and structures to ensure literacy is a priority across all subjects K-12.
  • Demonstrates respect, consideration, and courtesy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Candidate must possess a Virginia Teaching License and at least five years of classroom experience.
  • Master’s preferred with an endorsement in English, Reading, or Curriculum & Instruction.

  •  Candidate must possess leadership and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with all stakeholders.
