GENERAL INFORMATION

POSITION SUMMARY
  • To provide leadership and guidance to the school staff in implementing a comprehensive instructional reading program. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works in cooperation with the individual school staff to develop a comprehensive school plan for the teaching of reading.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the school staff in matters related to reading instruction to include conducting professional development and implementing division initiatives.
  • Serves as a model for instructional and professional excellence.
  • Provides intervention services to students that are not achieving success through regular classroom instruction.
  • Provides individualized instruction to children that focus on specific skill deficits.
  • Implements frequent progress monitoring to determine the effectiveness of intervention services.
  • Provides diagnostic services for students who have demonstrated a lack of progress with conventional intervention strategies and programs.
  • Provides individualized remediation/tutorial services based upon the diagnostic assessment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Candidate must possess a Virginia teacher license with a Master's Degree; reading specialist endorsement preferred.
