Restorative Specialist
GENERAL INFORMATION

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position will be supervised by the Department of Student Services and will be responsible for working in specific areas of the LCS Restore Program as well as partnering with other Restorative staff to provide training on restorative practices at the tier 1 level. Our Restorative Programs will include the Restorative Suspension Center, Restorative Academies, Alternative Schools, and other programs designed to provide students with the social and emotional tools to be successful along their educational journey.  This position will assist the members of the Student Services team in creating and implementing programming that will help students build the skills needed to return to their base school. This position will coordinate with contracted professionals to provide behavior support and interventions specific to behaviors that are displayed by individual student needs.  This position will also collaborate with team members to build community partnerships to help provide programs that focus on reducing community violence and gang involvement for our youth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
  • Assist the Student Services Department and Supervisors in establishing a restorative alternative education program.
  • Exhibit strong relationship-building skills to promote student success and staff efficacy.
  • Coordinate with the LCS Office of Community Relations to build community relationships that lead to programs specifically designed to decrease violence.
  • Create a plan to grow the position through demonstration of leadership skills.
  • Incorporate Restorative Practices that will enhance problem-solving skills and de-escalation. 
  • Mediation between students, parents, and teachers. 
  • Transition planning for students who are returning to their base school.
  • Timely check-ins with students who have returned to their base school.
  • Assist in building and implementing gang/violence prevention programming. 
  • Provides opportunities for success for all students.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work with teachers to provide students with meaningful educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate instructional strategies for high school and middle school students.
  • Providing ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring to guide faculty and staff.
  • Supports evaluation and selection of materials and interventions.
  • Use data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and students.
  • Monitors student progress and collects behavior data. 
  • Collaborates with base school administrators to monitor the progress of students.  
  • Helps determine and communicate specific student needs to teachers and contracted behavioral health professionals.
  • Works to achieve division/school/department objectives.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Help to create an effective organizational system to monitor student transitions. 
  • Provides opportunities for students, families, the community, and other stakeholders to provide feedback regarding the programs.
  • Utilizes effective motivational strategies.
