POSITION SUMMARY
  • To assist classroom teachers or other professionals with the care of special population students and to assist professional staff in helping students achieve instructional objectives, and established student goals. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervises assigned groups of students engaged in independent study/play activities.
  • Supervises individual students that are experiencing difficulties and the need to be isolated.
  • Assists in the supervision of students arriving and leaving school.
  • Assists in preparing meals, supervising, and/or feeding students during mealtimes.
  • Assists students with numerous self-help skills if needed.
  • Assists in supervising/helping students during transition periods (bathroom, playground, rooms, and jobs).
  • Supervises large groups of students before school and during faculty meetings.
  • Assists in supervising and working with students while on the playground.
  • Performs clerical duties consisting of typing, duplicating, filing, recording data, distributing materials, preparing display materials, weighing and measuring children.
  • Assists in maintenance of files containing student records, work and assessment data.
  • Cleans and organizes room throughout the day and at the end of each day.
  • Reacts appropriately and as directed in emergency situations.
  • Handles information about students confidentially.
  • Maintains courteous, professional and effective working relationships with all levels of employees.
  • Works the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.
  • Performs related duties as necessary.
  • Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
  • Assists with small group learning activities.
  • Provides instructional support during online learning.
  • Assists with the development of students’ social/emotional skills.
  • Supports students in learning classroom/school routines and procedures.
  • Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading/unloading of buses and any other assigned duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or successfully completed the ParaPro assessment.
  • Some experience in working with children.

  • This position also requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 40 lbs.
