Band Director

POSITION SUMMARY

 

To lead a high school instrumental music education program that will effectively provide the best possible instruction for each student.  

This contract position is for 12 months with full benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct/Instruct band classes, including a jazz class as determined by student interest. 
  • Teach AP Music Theory and/or percussion ensemble (to be determined according to the strengths of the candidate hired). 
  • Direct and coordinate all aspects of the band program. 
  • Coordinate and oversee the band booster organization. 
  • Assist the Theater teacher, as needed, by conducting the pit orchestra for theater productions. 
  • Recruit, provide leadership, and cooperate with the middle school band directors and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  •  Hold a bachelor’s degree and possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in music instrumental prek-12.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
  • Must be versatile with the ability to perform on a wide range of instruments preferred.
  • Must possess communication skills necessary to work successfully and cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Conducting experience required (band and ensemble). 
  • Applicants are encouraged to provide audio and/or video demonstrating conducting skills as well as ensemble performances in addition to a resume as a supplement to the application.
