| POSITION SUMMARY |
|
To lead a high school instrumental music education program that will effectively provide the best possible instruction for each student.
This contract position is for 12 months with full benefits.
|
| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Conduct/Instruct band classes, including a jazz class as determined by student interest.
- Teach AP Music Theory and/or percussion ensemble (to be determined according to the strengths of the candidate hired).
- Direct and coordinate all aspects of the band program.
- Coordinate and oversee the band booster organization.
- Assist the Theater teacher, as needed, by conducting the pit orchestra for theater productions.
- Recruit, provide leadership, and cooperate with the middle school band directors and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

| EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- Hold a bachelor’s degree and possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in music instrumental prek-12.
|
| KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES |
- Must be versatile with the ability to perform on a wide range of instruments preferred.
- Must possess communication skills necessary to work successfully and cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Conducting experience required (band and ensemble).
- Applicants are encouraged to provide audio and/or video demonstrating conducting skills as well as ensemble performances in addition to a resume as a supplement to the application.
