Instructional Assistant - Special Education
GENERAL INFORMATION

Site/Location:  Heritage High School Reports to: Building Administrators Date: 11/13/2024
  • Works collaboratively with special education and classroom teachers, as well as other professionals, to support the academic and social/emotional growth of students, including IEP goals, objectives, and/or accommodations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
  • Assists with small group learning activities.
  • Provides instructional support during online learning.
  • Assists with the development of students’ social/emotional skills.
  • Supports students in learning classroom/school routines and procedures.
  • Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading/unloading of buses, and any other assigned duties.
  • Maintains a positive, professional, solution-focused demeanor at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Willingness to substitute or perform duties as requested.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or completed the ParaPro assessment.
  • Some experience in working with children. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • This position requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
