GENERAL INFORMATION

POSITION SUMMARY
  • To provide speech and language screenings, assessment and therapy to children 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Screen, evaluate, diagnose and remediate communication disorders of student in the school division
  • Possess good communication skills and human relations skills needed in order to implement consultative programs through the classroom teachers, school staff and parents
  • Work effectively and cooperatively as a member of the local school based IEP team or School Consultation Team
  • Possess good writing and organizational skills need to formulate concise clinical reports
  • Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and maintain longitudinal records for each student
  • Maintains Plans of Care and logs for Medicaid billing and completes that information in a timely manner according to stated timelines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must hold a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and possess or be eligible for a Virginia Health Board of License as a Speech-Language Pathologist. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in evaluation and therapeutic techniques, experience working cooperatively with professionals in related disciplines, demonstrate skills in working with parents (counseling and training), excellent oral and written communication skills and human relations skills or other combination of applicable education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
  • Possess the ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose and remediate communication disorders of students, birth to twenty-one year of age and to be able to develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each individual student.

  • Travel between school sites is required for this position
